Göttingen, Germany

Göttingen is a small, college city. At first I disliked it because it was so small but now I've grown quite fond of the city. My boyfriend went to college here for 4 years and was proud to show me around his college town.
The thing I love most is the food! They have the best döners at "Efsane Döner" and the best ice cream at "Eislust."
A döner (kebab) is basically a sandwich wrapped in pita bread with veal, lettuce, and sauces inside. It's considered fast food, cheap (3-4 euros), and open 24 hours! (Basically their McDonald's) Döner's are everywhere in Germany but I'm convinced this place is the best.
TIP: Try döner fries after you've tried a regular döner!

The ice cream is also to die for and the best ice cream I've ever tasted! Eislust makes over 120 flavors (but only 24 at a time), some are weird, like cucumber or orange basil.
And the best part, ice cream in Europe is cheap! Most places are around 1 euro a scoop and Eislust is 1.20 euro, still extremely cheap compared to America. I'm ashamed to say we ate ice cream everyday during my visit.
TIP: A must try is the salted caramel!

Another thing I love about Göttingen, and Europe in general, is that people actually go to parks to enjoy an afternoon. Coming from Arizona, I never see people outside and especially not 30+ people with blankets enjoying the weather.
It's so normal in Europe and I love it! Go with friends and BBQ, go with a lover and enjoy quality time together, or go by yourself and appreciate some peace and quiet.

In the middle of Gottingen's central marketplace, there is a fountain with a statue of a girl on it that has been there since 1901. When students graduate with their doctorates, its tradition to climb up the fountain and kiss the statue. For some reason, many tourists come and stare at it too.
Here is some PDA in front of the fountain.

Like most places in Europe, biking is the preferred method here. Rent or borrow a bike and ride around the city, you'll see the most that way. The neighborhoods are charming to ride through as well.
There are many castles near by and we visited "Schloss Wilhelmshöhe" about 1 hour away by car. You'll be walking a lot because the castle is on 590 acres of land!!
TIP: Don't pay to go inside the actual castle, walking the trails outside is more beautiful!

The night life is always popping here because of all the college students. One bar in particular that my boyfriend showed me, called "Trou," stood out. It's underground! I felt like I was in midevil times, sitting around a barrel as a table, candle light everywhere, and the raw walls surrounding me.

Besides these few things mentioned, there is not much else (besides the usual things, like go to the movies) to do here in Göttingen. There are many old churches and buildings to see, if you're into that stuff, but *yawn*.
