I had no expectations of Malaysia, and I turned out to be pleasantly surprised! The captial, Kuala Lumpur, has many sights to see in the city - no need for long distances.

Accommodation:

For only $16 a night, I stayed in a great Airbnb with 2 rooftop pools, a gym, coffee shop, market, library, and was right next to public transportation. It doesn't get better than that! The room was shared with 2 other travelers but we each had a private room.

Things To Do:

1. Batu Caves

The Batu Caves are only about 20 minutes from the city BUT from my location, the train only ran once an hour, so plan accordingly! This is the furthest sight but very worth it. The top is considered a temple so you still need to cover up shoulders and knees ladies. You can rent a wrap skirt and shawl for a few cents at the entrance.

Monkeys run wild here, so watch your belongings!

2. Canopy Walk

It's like a piece of jungle right in the heart of the city and completely free - love it!

3. KL Tower

Ending the Canopy Walk, you'll see the KL Tower. I chose not to go to the tower because it cost about $13 and I was short on time.

4. Thean Hou Temple

This Chinese temple is beautiful and one of the oldest/ largest in Southeast Asia. Also free to get in and overlooks the city!

5. Federal Territory Mosque

This mosque is beautiful and open to the public with free tours! They will give you a traditional dress to cover yourself with.

6. Petronas Twin Towers

These twin skyscrapers were the tallest in the world up until 2004! They're even more beautiful at night.

7. Perdana Botanical Gardens

You could spend a whole day in these 220 acre garden! Everywhere you turn is gorgeous and probably my favorite sight in Kuala Lumpur. And free, of course!

Weather:

I went here mid July and it was a scorcher!! I'm from Arizona but this humidity mixed with the heat killed me. I literally couldn't walk more than half a mile without getting drenched in sweat. With that being said, I suggest Ubering everywhere - its cheap!
