Half the time, I didn't feel as welcome here as I did in Guatemala or Peru. The vibe was just unwelcoming at times.
Regardless, Medellin is a beautiful city built in a valley. This means basically everywhere you go, you'll have an awesome view!
Accommodation:
We stayed in another standard Airbnb for $17 a night with FANTASTIC views!
Apparently there was also a rooftop pool that I didn't know about (these photos are from the Airbnb listing) and now I'm pissed.
Things To Do:
1. Street Art Walk
This was my favorite thing to do in Medellin because it allows you to see the fun cultural side of the city. There were many different forms of art along this walk way, from dancing, to rapping, and physical art.
2. Botero Plaza
This is the main square, it's nice to look around for about 30 minutes and then I was done.
3. JardÃn Botánico de MedellÃn
These gardens are beautiful but has more of a park feel to me.
4. Ride the Cable Car
For only a couple dollars, you can ride the cable car and marvel at some great views.
5. Day Trip to Santa Fe de Antioquia
This city was a mistake. Yea it was cute and all but underwhelming, especially after driving 1.5 hours, and it was super HOT (97 degrees F). We saw 2 sights and hopped onto the bus back to Medellin. I feel like those 2 sights were really all to see in this city.
6. Day Trip to Guatape
Guatape was definitely a good move. The city was colorful, was surrounded by beautiful water, and had some cute sights. Takes 2 hours on a bus for about $20 roundtrip.
If you see this fruit and cream from a sweet, little, old, lady street vendor, buy 5 of them. (They're delish)
We took a boat tour around the water for $15 per person and we got to see Pablo Escobar's home and family homes.
A couple miles outside Guatape, there is La Piedra. A giant rock you can climb up for amazing views! It's 720 steps and $6 to get in.
